The OUZO tragedy Saturday 26 May 2007 Many of you, especially United Kingdom readers, will be aware of the tragic sinking of the yacht Ouzo south of the Isle of Wight which took place in August 2006 with the loss of all 3 crew members. The full Marine Accident Investigation Branch report is available on the MAIB website at MAIB report which makes it clear that one of the contributory causes was the lack of a radar return from the Ouzo. Because of this the MAIB commissioned QinetiQ, the UK's Notified Body for radar reflectors, to investigate and report on the effectiveness of the radar reflectors on the market.
