Does everyone look at their AIS? Friday 26 October 2007 This is the text of an email from our Swedish dealer. William & Peter! Did you find out if the radar in a boat normally is connected to the AIS so that you actually can see the AIS information on the radar screen? It would be interesting to know the answer to that. The question came up since a small sailing boat which right now is sailing from Ireland to US contacted a vessel and asked if they could see them on their AIS instrument (they had equipped the boat with an AIS). The answer was that we are not looking so much on our AIS - we are looking on our radar screen. So the recommendation from the big boat was to install a good radar reflector!! The name of the small boat skipper is YRVIND (this means stormy winds in Swedish). He is quite famous since he has been sailing around the world a number of times in small boats. The smallest was a 6 m boat.
